How MySelfBuild Cost Consultancy Ireland collects, uses, and protects your personal data.
Version 2026-06-draft
Placeholder — pending legal review
This document is a working draft prepared by the product team. It must be reviewed and finalised by a qualified legal adviser before launch and is not a substitute for professional legal advice.
1. Who we are
MySelfBuild Cost Consultancy Ireland Ltd. (placeholder — company registration details to be confirmed) is the data controller for personal data processed through this service. You can reach our privacy contact at privacy@myselfbuild.ie.
2. The personal data we collect and why
We follow a principle of data minimisation: we only ask for what we need to help you plan and deliver your self-build, and we explain why.
| Category | What's included | Why we use it | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account details | Name, email, mobile | To create your account, sign you in securely, and contact you about your project. | Contract |
| Project information | Site location, design choices, programme, budget range, materials of interest | So our team can help plan, procure for, and progress your self-build. | Contract |
| Documents you upload | Drawings, planning documents, certificates | To advise on procurement and project delivery. Stored privately; never publicly linkable. | Contract |
| Communications log | Notes of calls, emails and meetings with our team | To give every staff member the context they need to help you, and to evidence advice given. | Legitimate interests |
| Marketing preferences | Whether you've opted in to marketing emails | Only used to send marketing emails if you've explicitly opted in. Optional. | Consent |
3. Marketing communications
Service communications (about your account, your project and our team's response to your requests) are kept separate from marketing. You will only receive marketing email if you have explicitly opted in. You can withdraw marketing consent at any time from your account settings — it will not affect any other part of the service.
4. Sharing your information
We never expose customer information publicly. Where we run aggregated analyses (for example, identifying potential bulk purchasing groups), supplier-facing exports use anonymised project references and approximate delivery locations only — never your name, email, phone or exact home address — unless you have specifically authorised it.
5. How long we keep your data
We hold project and account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards in line with our retention schedule. Detailed retention periods will be published before launch.
6. Your rights
Under the EU GDPR and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018 you have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. You can exercise these rights from your account settings or by emailing privacy@myselfbuild.ie. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
7. Security
Documents you upload are stored in a private bucket and are never publicly linkable. Internal access is restricted by role, sensitive administrative actions are logged, and we do not retain links to deleted files.
8. Changes to this policy
When we make material changes to this policy we will publish a new version and record your acceptance of it.
